Molecular sieves and related materials (including most microporous and mesoporous materials with regular pore structures) are a branch of catalysis and materials that has a major impact on scientific technology and industrial processes. Molecular sieves are the most important group of industrial heterogeneous catalysts. They are used in large-scale refining and petrochemical processes, and are increasingly used in environmental catalysis and fine chemical synthesis.
Molecular sieve is the crystal structure of microporous aluminosilicate, which provides the possibility to modify it. To date, about 200 molecular sieves of different structures, sizes, and shapes have been discovered, with channels typically consisting of 8 to 30 rings. The structure of molecular sieve channels sometimes exceeds 1 nm, but it is worth emphasizing that the maximum channel size for industrial applications is 0.74 nm (12 rings). The controllability of its structure and the adjustability of its acidity (acid type, concentration and strength of acid sites) are the most important features of molecular sieves.

 

It has the characteristics of high temperature and high pressure resistance, high water absorption, no crushing or pulverization, high mechanical strength and stable chemical properties. It can withstand the corrosion of acids, alkalis and other organic solvents, and can withstand the temperature changes that occur in the production process. Its main function is to increase the distribution point of gas or liquid, and to support and protect the active catalyst with low strength. Molecular sieve adsorbents are classified into 4A molecular sieve, 3A molecular sieve, 5A molecular sieve, 13X molecular sieve and so on according to the model.
